The generation that lived through The Great Depression of the 1930s was very independent. Their motto was, “do it yourself, make do, or do without.” My parents were of that generation, so getting help was not their first choice.
Now, I believe the outlook is different. We hire people to clean our homes, repair the plumbing or groom our dog. It is acceptable – even preferred – to pay people to take some of the load off of our stressful lives.
